Riga Technical University prepares specialists in new modern areas:
Nanoengineering is engineering of machines, devices, manufacturing processes and other corresponding technologies at nanoscale. Medical engineering and physics aims at applying the latest advances of engineering and physics in medical technology. Best full time students of Master’s programmes “Nanoengineering” and “Medical Engineering and Physics” can participate in the competition for European Social Fund (ESF) scholarship 426.86 EUR per month. To apply, see the RTU homepage.

“Medical Engineering and Physics”Engineering and physics-based technologies are widely used in modern medicine. Together with medical doctors, medical engineers and medical physicists participate in the diagnostics and treatment of patients. Graduates of the programme will acquire knowledge about physical technologies and corresponding equipment used in medicine, will be able to improve existing and develop new equipment and technologies, will be able to manage and participate in the process of manufacturing of medical equipment, and will be able to ensure the efficient use of medical physical technologies and equipment. Students are acquiring theoretical knowledge and practical skills by attending lectures, lab practicals, doing practical training at design and manufacturing companies, in research institutions and clinics. The programme is offered at Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
General or professional secondary education is required for admission to the programme. Applicants having 1st level higher education in medicine or technical sciences can continue their studies in the 2nd level study programme according to the individual study plan. Teaching takes place in cooperation with Riga Stradiņš University. The graduates are awarded with Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Physics and Qualification of engineer of physical technologies in medicine. Students have opportunity to specialize in medical physics, computer science in medicine, medical electronics, biomechanics, prosthetics, materials science and medical business.
Admission requirements are: Professional Bachelor’s degree in medical physics and 5th level professional qualification – engineer of physical technologies in medicine or 5th level professional qualification in electrical engineering, mechanics, computer sciences, or other equivalent education. Degree awarded: Master’s Degree in Medical Physics. Job opportunities for the graduates of “Medical Engineering and Physics” study programme: production, design and research institutions; hospitals, laboratories, clinics; sales and service of medical equipment; certification and control institutions, and elsewhere. Graduates are successfully employed in international organizations: International Atomic Energy Agency in Austria, EU Scientific Research Center of Excellence in Italy, European Patent Office in Germany, Euratom Supply Agency in Luxembourg, etc.
Famous foreign professors who are experts of the field are involved in teaching in all programmes. Students have opportunity to participate in international student exchange programs and study in foreign universities (UK, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Greece, Norway, and etc.).
